Cradle Mountain NP has many spectacular day walks, and is also the starting point for the Overland Track, which links Cradle Mountain NP to Lake St. Clair NP.
Cradle Mountain Summit can be done as a day walk for reasonably fit walkers, from the visitor centre at Cradle Mountain. Buses will shuttle (free, you do need a National Parks Pass though) to the trail head - there are multiple trail heads, with which one is best for you depending on fitness and experience.
Walkers need to have appropriate clothing, as the weather can change quickly and move between extremes. There is an emergency shelter at about the halfway point, with a pit toilet.
The track is well signposted and defined, however the walk does have steep sections, and there are many parts of the track where falls are possible. This is not a walk for those with a fear of heights.
The summit is well defined, with no facilities. As such, it is exposed with no shelter.
Fit parties can summit and return within 6 hours. Water is not available along the track during warmer seasons.
Navigation in heavy snow is difficult and not recommended.
