Waitewaewae Hut Guide

- Facilities: Waitewaewae Hut is positioned beside the Ōtaki River in Tararua Forest Park, offering a cosy refuge with heating, mattresses and untreated tap water (boil before use). Built in 1991 by the Greater Wellington Backcountry Network to replace a 1950 Hutt Valley Tramping Club shelter and sited on the 1936 Whare‑iti bivvy location, it sleeps 16 trampers at about 300 m elevation and is reached via a rugged 6‑hour track from Ōtaki Forks.
