  • Facilities: Field Hut is tucked just below the bushline in the Ōtaki Forks area at around 900 m, offering a rare blend of heritage and practicality. Built in 1924 by the Tararua Tramping Club using pit‑sawn timber, it remains the oldest surviving purpose‑built tramping hut in the Tararuas. Managed by DOC in partnership with the club, it sleeps 20 and provides basic comforts like heating, mattresses, and untreated tap water that must be boiled.
