  • Facilities: Anderson Memorial Hut is set amid the bushline of Tararua Forest Park, nestled between Junction Knob (1375 m) and Kahiwiroa Peak (1320 m). Managed by DOC, this six‑bunk refuge—rebuilt in 1978 using materials from Mid‑Ōtaki Hut—honours pilot Oliver Anderson, whose pioneering 1948 airdrop made it the first high‑level hut in New Zealand. Access is via Ōtaki Forks, typically reached through Waitewaewae Hut. Facilities include basic heating, mattresses, non‑flush toilets and untreated tap water.
