- Facilities: Saxon Hut is set at about 705 m on the Heaphy Track in Kahurangi National Park, offering a rustic refuge with heating, cooking facilities and mattresses in a single communal room. Built in 1982 and named for surveyor John Saxon, it sleeps 16 on platform bunks. Surrounded by tussock-clad Gouland Downs, it’s managed by DOC and reached via a gentle descent from Gouland Downs Hut.
