- Facilities: Puteore Hut sits at about 548 m in the Waitōtara Conservation Area, managed by the Department of Conservation. Built in the early 1970s to replace an earlier Forest Service shelter, it offers six bunks warmed by a wood stove and simple non‑flush toilets, with untreated tap water that must be boiled. Access is via a ridge track from Tahupo Hut, though the Puniwhakau Road approach remains closed.
