Built in the 1920s by river‑works supervisor Thomas William Downes as his riverside base, it now offers five serviced bunks with basic comforts and a wood fire. Managed by the Department of Conservation, it’s reached by canoe or jet‑boat and sits at low elevation beside the Whanganui River.
