Built of local volcanic stone in the early 20th century as part of Harry Ell’s summit-route vision, it now serves as a serviced DOC hut with nine bunks, a wood‑burner, untreated tank water and basic toilets. Accessible via a gentle 1–3 hour walk from Kaituna Valley.
