  • Facilities: Old Man Hut is positioned at about 1, 140 m in a grassy clearing between Old Man Peak and Mt Rintoul in Mount Richmond Forest Park. Built in 1966 by the NZ Forest Service and upgraded in 1997, this modest five‑bunk shelter offers basic comforts—mattresses, heating and untreated tap water (boil before use)—and is managed by DOC. Access is via alpine ridgelines on the Te Araroa route, with sweeping views toward Nelson and Motueka.
