Built to replace Bay Creek Hut in the early 1970s, it provides basic comforts like heating and mattresses, with untreated tap water that must be boiled. Access follows a farm road and track from Matiri Valley Road, with views across the lake and onward routes to the 1000‑Acre Plateau.
