- Facilities: Ghost Lake Hut is set at about 1, 200 m atop the Lyell Range, offering sweeping alpine panoramas born of the Old Ghost Road’s gold‑rush heritage. Built in 2012 by the Mōkihinui‑Lyell Backcountry Trust, it sleeps 18 in the main hut, with additional summer sleep‑outs. Volunteers equipped it with cooking, heating and lighting, and water is collected from the roof—boil before use. Access is via a challenging multi‑day tramp or ride along the restored dray‑road route.
