- Facilities: Asbestos Cottage, built in 1897 and restored by DOC, is a tiny historic hut in Kahurangi National Park’s Cobb Valley, once home to Henry and Annie Chaffey for nearly 40 years. Reached via the Asbestos Track off Cobb Dam Road—4WD advised in winter—it sits in a grassy clearing with views toward Tākaka and offers four bunks, an open fire, basic mattresses, a long-drop toilet and untreated water, free and first-come.
