Red Hut Guide

- Facilities: Red Hut is located at about 625 m amid beech forest on a river fan in Canterbury’s Ruataniwha Conservation Park. Built in 1916 for guided tourism and later used for mustering, it was gifted to NZFS in 1956 and restored by DOC in 2003. The two-room hut sleeps 12 on mattresses, warmed by a log burner, and draws untreated tap water—boil before use. A 15 km, roughly four-hour tramp from Ram Hill carpark leads here.
