Makino Hut Guide

- Facilities: Makino Hut is found at about 980 m in a sunny clearing where manuka and red beech mingle, offering a cosy wood‑burning stove and basic comforts like mattresses and a long‑drop toilet. Built in 1959 by the Napier Deerstalkers Club and upgraded in 1993, it sleeps six and is managed by DOC. Accessible via several marked routes from Makahu Road, it’s ideal for day or weekend tramps.
