Ballard Hut Guide

- Facilities: Ballard Hut is tucked at about 1, 402 m on the edge of mountain beech forest above the upper Makino River in Kaweka Forest Park. Built in 1958 by the NZ Forest Service and upgraded in 2003, it offers four bunks warmed by a wood‑burning stove and rain‑tank water (boil before use). Named in memory of the pilot who dropped its materials, it lies 500 m off the main route—ideal for seasoned trampers traversing the range.
