Built by DOC in 1998 to replace the original 1960s structure, it sits at roughly 103 m elevation and is staffed by a conservation ranger during Great Walks season. Its cosy kitchen and heating complement the tap water (boil before use) and flush toilets, making it a welcoming alpine refuge.
