Butler Junction Hut Guide

- Facilities: Butler Junction Hut sits at about 317 m in the rugged Whataroa area, managed by DOC on stewardship land. Built by NZFS in the 1960s and expanded in the 1980s, it now offers eight bunks, simple heating, mattresses, and basic toilet and water facilities. Reaching it involves a demanding five‑hour tramp along the lower Whataroa River, with riverbed and bush travel before arriving at this remote refuge.
