Managed by DOC on stewardship land, this six‑bunk refuge was built in the 1970s and upgraded with a wood‑burner replacing its original open fire. Accessible via a demanding two‑hour climb from Butler Junction, it offers basic comforts—warmth, mattresses, simple toilets and untreated tap water—amid flood‑prone river flats.
