- Facilities: Waitawheta Hut is tucked at about 361 m in a grassy clearing beside the Waitawheta River in Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park. Operated by DOC, this serviced hut sleeps 26 in two bunkrooms warmed by a wood stove and offers untreated tap water (boil before use). Built in 2007 on the site of the old mill cookhouse, it’s reached via a gentle tramway walk rich in logging relics and swing bridges.
