Oamaru Hut Guide

- Facilities: Oamaru Hut is tucked on a river terrace above the confluence of the Kaipo, Mohaka and Oamaru rivers in Kaimanawa Forest Park. Built in the early 1970s as a Lockwood-style Forest Service shelter, it offers 12 bunks and basic comforts like heating and mattresses. Managed by DOC in partnership with the NZ Deerstalkers Association, it’s reached via a 12 km tramp from Taharua Road or a longer 19 km route from Clements Mill Road.
