- Facilities: Lame Duck Hut is located at about 559 m in the remote Karangarua Valley of Westland Tai Poutini National Park. Managed by the Department of Conservation, this modest four‑bunk shelter was rebuilt in 2008 by the NZ Deerstalkers’ Association (West Coast) and Safari Club International, using salvaged elements of the old McCormack Hut. It offers basic comforts—warmth, mattresses, simple toilets and untreated tap water—after a rugged day’s approach.
