Operated by the Department of Conservation, this fifth-generation alpine refuge opened in 2003 and sleeps 28 on mattress-equipped bunks. Its solar lighting, gas cookers and untreated tap water (boil before use) make it a comfortable high‑alpine base after a steep 3–4‑hour climb from Mount Cook Village.
