Perfect conditions such as this for climbing or viewing the mountain do not last long. By early afternoon the wind was blowing at gale force and the clouds were moving in. This western face of the mountain falls nearly 3000m to the Hooker Glacier below. The small figure (in red) on the track is still many kilometres from the base of the mountain.
