Sayer Hut Guide

- Facilities: Sayer Hut is tucked at about 190 m in Tararua Forest Park’s Totara Flats, offering six bunks warmed by an open fire and simple comforts like mattresses and a non‑flush loo. Built by Richard B. Sayer around 1947–48 to replace an earlier 1909 structure, it remains maintained by the Sayer family and NZDA volunteers. Access involves a challenging Waiohine River crossing—only for experienced trampers.
