It stands at the foot of the Mologna Grande pass, which connects the Cervo Valley with the Lys Valley. The refuge was built with funds allocated by the Biella section in 1909; it is named after Biella entrepreneur Alfredo Rivetti, who was killed in an avalanche with his companion Giovanni Edelmann.
