Rifugio Portafranca Guide

- Facilities: Rifugio Portafranca is found at 1, 580 m atop the Orsigna Valley, where beech woods give way to alpine pastures. Managed by CAI Pistoia volunteers, it offers around 25 bunks plus a small always‑open four‑bed bivouac, and a welcoming kitchen and dining space with modern comforts. Built in 1940 and refreshed in 1999, it’s reached via a scenic forest road or the CAI 35 trail.

It is located at the head of the Orsigna Valley, just below the Orsigna pass. It has 25 beds and a 4-bed emergency shelter that is always open. It is managed by the section's volunteer members during the summer.
