- Facilities: Mid Pohangina Hut stands on a grassy flat above the Pohangina River in Ruahine Forest Park. This modest four‑bunk shelter, managed by DOC in partnership with the Palmerston North Tramping & Mountaineering Club, was refurbished in early 2024 with a new wood‑burner and water tank. At about 562 m elevation, it’s reached via a 10 km sidle‑track from Takapari Road, with river crossings requiring caution.
