Named for John Tait, whose 1951 volunteer-built shelter predated the park, the current 27‑bunk serviced hut (built in 1978) sits in a sunny clearing with views to Mt Travers and Cupola. It offers basic comforts—warmth, mattresses, non‑flush toilets and untreated tap water—along a well‑graded valley track.
