Iron Gate Hut Guide

- Facilities: Iron Gate Hut lies at about 750 m above the Oroua River in Ruahine Forest Park, offering ten mattress-equipped bunks warmed by a woodburner. Rebuilt in 2019 by DOC with NZ Defence Force, it replaced an older NZFS-style shelter and now serves trampers on the sidle track from Alice Nash Lodge. Untreated tap water requires boiling, and the setting is rich in whio conservation efforts.
