- Facilities: Herepai Hut is located at about 760 m in a bush clearing above Ruapae Stream, serving as a snug launch point into the northern Tararua tops. Built in 1980 by NZFS rangers with local club help, it sleeps ten and offers a wood‑burner, mattresses, and gravity‑fed water (boil before use). Managed by Greater Wellington Backcountry Network under DOC, it’s a rewarding two‑hour tramp from Putara Road.
