Managed by the Department of Conservation, this standard 12‑bunk shelter replaced a modest 4‑bunk predecessor in 2006. Accessible via a steep 3.5‑hour tramp from Borland Road, it offers basic comforts—warmth, mattresses and untreated tap water—amid tussock and beech forest.
