Operated by DOC, this serviced 12‑bunk refuge was built in 1979 as a memorial to Fenella Druce. A gentle, well‑maintained tramping route from Trilobite Hut leads through beech forest and tussock to reach its warm interior, where cooking, heating and basic water facilities await—just boil before use.
