Built in 1969 to replace earlier club-built shelters, it offers 16 bunks across two rooms warmed by a log burner and supplied with rainwater (boil before use) and basic long-drop toilets. Access via the rugged Edwards–Otehake or Hawdon routes rewards trampers with wild alpine terrain and a sense of pioneering history.
