Managed by DOC, this eight‑bunk shelter—rebuilt from its NZFS origins—offers a wood‑burner warmth and tank‑fed water (boil before use). Named for missionary‑botanist William Colenso, it’s reached via a rugged ridge and creek descent, with sunrise views over the Ruahine Range.
