This view from the western rim explains why Rinjani is considered the most beautiful volcanoe by many. For photographers the tour with the best light begins in the east (back-left of the foto), staying overnight at the base camp there at 2.900m and reaching the peak at sunrise.From there you have a wonderful view on Tambora further east and Agung to the west. Going down, packing tent, passing by the lake and building tent on this western rim can be done in one day, although the difference in altitude is big ( up 1.800m and down the same). But porter services on Rinjani are the best all over Indonesia.
