Makalu Expedition – Climbing Note
Makalu (8,485 m) is the 5th highest mountain in the world and one of the most technical 8000m peaks in Nepal. It demands strong experience in high-altitude climbing, glacier travel, and fixed rope techniques.
The standard route follows the Northwest Ridge, with multiple high camps established above Makalu Base Camp. Climbers must be prepared for steep snow slopes, exposed sections, and the final summit pyramid, which involves technical climbing at extreme altitude.
Weather on Makalu is often harsh and unpredictable, with strong winds and colder conditions compared to other 8000m peaks. Proper acclimatization, patience for weather windows, and solid physical conditioning are essential.
This expedition is best suited for experienced climbers who have previously climbed 6000m–7000m peaks and are comfortable operating independently in high-altitude environments.
