Walk up
Gausta is the highest peak in Telemark in Norway and is located arond 100-150 km west of Oslo. You can go by car up to 1100 meters above sea level and park there and then there is a market path that takes you all the way up to the top at 1883 meters. You can also walk up from the nearest village (Rjukan-250 eters) towards Selstalii and when you have reached 940 meters you turn east towards Svineroi. Keep following the path along the powerlines and when the path is starting to descend you can leave it and walk on the eastern side of the mountain. Its racommendable that you dont walk directly towards the summit because its too steep and its full of unstable blocks. Instead keep following the side of the mountain without loosing any altitude (no use to go down if you are going up later). Its full of blocks here too but it is not so steep so its not dangerous. Keep following the side until you reach the path from the carparking at 1100 meters and follow it to the top. You will probably be at 1400-1500 meters when you find the path (you cant miss it). Its not recommendable to go if the cloudbase is low because you can get lost very easy on the vast block-areas and you need to keep your orientation. Rjukan is located north of Gausta and this description tells you to go around the mountain on the eastside and make the last 300 meters from southeast via the path. At 1840 meters you will find a house and if I am not wrong you can buy some food here in July and August but I am not sure. I was there in June and It was closed by that time.. . In the west you can see Hardangervidda and in north you can see Haldingskarvet. If the the weather is very clear you are supposed to see all the way to the Swedish border in the east. Note You can follow the path all the way to Svineroi and the take a new path up (the one you find later anyway) to the summit. However you will lose 200 meters in altitude by doing this but if you dont like the blocks its an option.
