Waiaua Gorge Hut Guide

- Facilities: Waiaua Gorge Hut is tucked at about 604 m on the western slopes of Taranaki Maunga, managed by the Department of Conservation. Built in 1984, it offers a cosy refuge with mattresses, a wood-fired stove and untreated rainwater—bring a boil‑before‑use mindset. Sixteen bunks await trampers arriving via the Around‑the‑Mountain Circuit or the Ihaia Track, though access from the upper Ihaia side remains disrupted by washouts.
