Waiau Hut Guide

- Facilities: Waiau Hut is located at about 850 m in a sheltered clearing beside the Waiau River in Canterbury’s St James Conservation Area. Operated by DOC and opened in January 2018 thanks to a generous donation, it offers six bunks, a cosy wood‑burner, basic mattresses and a long‑drop toilet. Accessible via a 90‑minute walk from the 4WD track or a longer tramp over Waiau Pass, it’s a vital link on the Te Araroa Trail.
