Walk up
Once an important altar for religious ceremonies of the Cherokee people, Table Rock is now an altar for rock climbing. Although its profile from afar may be a little intimidating from most every angle, rest assured that there's a class 1+ route up the forested southwest slope. But for those looking for more of a challenge, look no further than the 400 vertical feet of Table Rock's east face. The numerous routes vary in degree of technical difficulty (to 5.11). The 360 degree view from the summit is pleasant, but once atop Table Rock, you may be distracted by the calling of some of Linville Gorge's other attractions Hawksbill, The Chimneys, and of course Shortoff Mountain. (Round trip distance from Table Rock parking area 2 miles).
