Technical Climb
When a mountain is so large and complex as Mount Shuksan is, it is bound to have subsidiary and minor summits. Such is the case with Seahpo Peak which is 2 miles east of the summit of Shuksan, but still connected to the mountain by Jagged Ridge. The col just west of Seahpo Peak which connects to Jagged Ridge, creates about 441 feet of prominence and thus Seahpo Peak is a summit in its own right. Seahpo Peak is located in North Cascades National Park. It is steep, icy, and rugged on all sides so it maintains the character that Mount Shuksan is famous for. It is situated at the head of Nooksack Cirque, and the steep north face of Seahpo towers over 4000 feet above the large cirque floor. Seahpo is also 1.4 mile southwest of Icy Peak. Seahpo Peak is alternately referred to as Cloudcap Peak and the elevation is sometimes listed as 7313 feet. The name Seahpo is derived from the Native American jargon for cap or hat.Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 3, for climbing route descriptions.
