Ngadi Chuli is considered the 20th highest peak in the world, separated by a saddle from Manaslu to the North. While clearly a subsidiary to Manaslu, its prominence of 1,020 meter [3,346 feet] over the saddle ridge qualifies it as a separate peak on most lists. Ngadi Chuli is also known as Peak 29. It is believed to have been first climbed by two members of a Japanese expedition in 1970, but this is unconfirmed as they suffered a fatal fall on the descent. Three subsequent Japanese expeditions met with failure. The only confirmed ascent [and the last attempt on the mountain] was in 1979 by two Polish climbers via the West buttress.
