Munkhu Sardyk (there are many spelling varieties) is the highest peak of the Eastern Sayan Mountains in Southern Central Siberia. It is covered by a 23km glacier (which is the only glacier in the Sayans). To the South there is the magnificent Khovsgol Lake in Mongolia and several other 3000+ mountains. The Sayan Mountains (e.g. their appearance) are often compared to the Alps although they are characterized by a completely different geological and tectonic history. The slopes of Munkhu Sardyk are covered with Taiga woods up to an elevation of approximately 1900m. The nearest center is Mondy (don't expect too much!).
