Walk up
Mount Katahdin is a rugged and beautiful mountain that dominates the vast remote wilderness of Baxter State Park in Northern Maine. The mountain, despite its relatively small elevation, looms above treeline in this area. Its high peak, Baxter Peak, is the northern terminus of the 2,025-mile Appalachian Trail. Other trails link Katahdin's high peaks, and include the spectacular Knife Edge Trail (2,000 feet of vertical drop on either side), which connects South Peak and Pamola Peak, both east of Baxter. Several climbers have lost their lives on Knife Edge Trail.
