Mount Hinman is located in the scenic Alpine Lakes Wilderness, or about 55 miles east of Seattle, Washington. Hinman is situated immediately west of Mt. Daniel and is approximately midway between Snoqualmie Pass and Stevens Pass. The gentle slopes of hold the Hinman Glacier on the north flank and the Foss Glacier on the east flank. Hinman is a massive mountain with a long ridge summit which straddles the King County - Kittitas County boundary line. The standard route is made from La Bohn Gap by scrambling up easy talus slopes on the west ridge. The Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Road approach to La Bohn Gap via Dutch Miller Trail is not recommended without a high clearance vehicle to reach the trailhead. Weather permitting, the summit provides views of Rainier, Glacier Peak, Daniel, Lemah, Chimney Rock, Bears Breast Mountain and many more. The mountain is named for Dr. Harry B. Hinman who led a climb of Mt. Stuart with the Mountaineers in 1914. Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide Climbing and High Routes, Volume 1, for a complete listing of all the established routes and approaches for Mount Hinman.
