Scramble
Mount Engadine is located at the west end of the Kananaskis Range west of The Tower and east of the south end of Spray Lake. Although generally scree on the west aspect it has a very steep northeast face. There is a moderate rated scrambling route which goes up the northwest ridge but it is mostly bush and scree, making for a brutal slog. However, the mountain is worth an ascent as you are unlikely to encounter other parties and have the peak to yourself. The views from the summit are outstanding including the view towards Mount Sir Douglas and the Royal Group, Mount Assiniboine, and you can also see peaks as far away as the Purcell Mountains.Although possibly removed, the summit is home to a radio repeater and it was named in 1917 after the light battle cruiser HMS Engadine which participated in the Battle of Jutland during World War I.Access to the peak is best from the Buller Pond Recreation Area off of the Spray Lakes Road then you use the first portion of the Buller Pass Trail to gain the scrambling route.
