Mount Angeles is located in the northern part of Olympic National Park. It is situated as the highest peak around the Hurricane Ridge area. The view from the summit provides a grand vista into the heart of the Olympic mountains, including Mt Olympus to the southwest, and north across the Straight of Juan De Fuca to Victoria on Vancouver Island. Mount Angeles dominates the skyline from the nearby town of Port Angeles, and can be picked out by the eye from as far away as Victoria, British Columbia. While modest in height at 6454 feet, its location 8 miles from sea-level saltwater shores gives it dramatic topographic relief. Mount Angeles is a popular climb any time of year since it is close to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's Center. Because the road is plowed in the winter, it is an excellent winter climbing objective which can be done in a few hours on skis or snowshoes. Take an ice axe for a steep icy section near the summit.
