Technical Climb
Goode Mountain, also known as Mount Goode, is the 9th highest summit in Washington state and one of the most stiking. Goode is the highest peak in North Cascades National Park. It is named for Richard Goode who was a geographer with the USGS. Goode cannot be seen from any highway as its position in the range makes it a remote and challenging climb. The Northeast Face, which holds the Goode Glacier, rises over a vertical mile above the North Fork Bridge Creek valley floor. The Northeast Buttress route is the most popular route and offers an incredible alpine climb on solid rock made of Skagit Gneiss. Fred Beckey made the first ascent of the NE Buttress in 1966. Goode has steep buttresses, narrow chimneys, and smooth walls. First ascent by Wolf Bauer, Philip Dickert, Joe Halwax, Jack Hossack, George MacGowan on 7/5/1936.Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 2, for information on the established climbing routes.
