Ghiona is the highest peak of Mount Giona. In general the route to the summit is easy to moderate rock climbing. The footpath starts from a nearby village, Kaloscopi, 1100m. with a west orientation. After 2-3 hours we arrive at a point where trees do not exist any more (alpine zone), 1500m. At that point we turn south and hike for 2 hours up to a great plateau, where there are dozens of springs! on 1950m. The plateau is located under the rocky pyramid of the peak and is the starting point of many moderate/hard rock-climbing routes to the summit. At that point the path gets a bit more serious and some basic climbing is required. After 3 hours of hard ascending we final reach the summit ridge. 10 minutes are required from now on to stand on the highest peak of Central Greece.
