Usually people camp at Pos V, at 2.300m, just below the treeline. But there is no view. Camp on the crater rim (2.650m) is very rewarding - but choose a wind protected area! Night winds on Tambora can be very stormy! On this foto Rinjani on Lombok in the west at sunrise, after an extremely stormy night, which blew three out of eight tents away.
